Every one wants to be successful until they see what it actually takes

success

A successful pianist gives her view point

A great pianist played for a group of prominent ladies one day and afterward as they sat and drank coffee and tea one of the ladies said…

What it actually takes

“I would give anything to play like you do!”

The pianist, with her cup held up in midair about to take a drink paused and said…

“No, you wouldn’t!”

The first lady, now hurt and embarrassed, said…

“yes, I would!”

The pianist, now setting her cup down said…

“You would give anything to play as I do now, but you would not want to give the 23 years, 5 hours a day, 7 days a week, that it takes to learn how to play as I do now.”

Being successful takes time and sacrifice, are you willing to give what it actually takes?

Being successful requires time

Be patient...great things requires time.

We also hear the statement, "Rome was not built in a day", which is a very true statement.

Just consider the Roman Colosseum took 8 years and then still needed improvements.

Mark Twain wrote: "It usually takes more than three weeks to prepare a good impromptu speech. Overnight success is a fallacy. It is preceded by a great deal of preparation. Ask any successful person how they came to this point in their lives, and they will have a story to tell."

Mark Cuban said,  "It doesn't matter how many times you fail. You only have to be right once and then everyone can tell you that you are an overnight success."

The pianist told the lady, in the story at the beginning, it took 23 years to be that good.

Tyson Zahner was 18 years in the making. Others failed at 3,4,5, and even 11 different businesses before becoming successful.

There is even a teaching that you need 10,000 hours of deliberate practice to become a master in any skill. This has been shown not to be true in some fields but there are still time factors involved.

Being successful requires sacrifice

What kinds of sacrifice does a person have to make to be successful?

The answer to that question varies greatly from individual to individual  but here are 4 things that may fit many.

The first one is TIME. -

Like I pointed out in the story it took 23 years to be able to play at a master level.  but let's take this to a more personal level.  If you work a full time job you have to schedule time after that work for your work.  It doesn't matter if it is 30 minutes, 1 hour, or 3 hours a day, then so many days a week.  If it is your full time job and you are the owner you may put in more hours than any other person and sometimes without pay.  Which leads us to...

Number 2 is Instant Gratification

We live in a microwave world where we can have things in a minute but we want it in 30 seconds. As a society we are use to having things now. Messenger, Facebook, text, Face time, ATMs and the list could go on.  But...success does not always happen NOW.  More often than not, there is a learning curve to go thru, relationships to build, and routines to develop to receive any return on our investment.  Prepare yourself for delayed gratification.  You can help with this by...

Number 3, Simplifying your life style

When many start the journey to success they think I have to have this and that and all the latest gadgets.  I have to learn this and that and keep up over here etc... etc. I must live the life style to appear successful and keep my mind in the successful attitude. When you really should cut back on any thing that you can.  Examples are eating out often, paying for three cars when you only need one. Going to the movies 3 times a week.  Many have rented out their home and lived in the parents or other persons basement while building the business. What ever you can do without to cut down on decision making events and financial loads will help tremendously.  One of those cut backs could be...

Number 4, giving up your hobby

Especially in the beginning times of your journey to become successful.  Do you play golf? That is a time consumer and it can be an expensive one. Are you a collector of certain things that must be purchase to collect?  For example... Old cars, pianos, stamps, antique house furniture... it doesn't matter what it is... it takes time and money that could be used towards getting your business off the ground. This does not have to be forever, just until you get things to cruising altitude. Hobby's are good for us but they may be a time for sacrifice.

Successful individuals learn to say NO!

Successful people learn to say no to wasting time, to instant gratification, to a cluttered life style, to hobbies, and many more things that can slow down the progress of your journey.

saying NO and sacrificing many things will help you to focus on the one important thing.
