Improving your ability to focus to succeed

Having an ability to focus on one thing until you get it done will propel you to success like a rocket.

Focus

You probably have heard it said that we need to be multitasking to get things done quicker and be more efficient to succeed. I have found in my self that I get less done and many times I don't know where to start or where I left off with one or the other projects.

A Quote from http://www.talentsmart.com by   Dr Travis Bradberry says,

"but new studies show that it kills your performance and may even damage your brain. Research conducted at Stanford University found that multitasking is less productive than doing a single thing at a time. The researchers found that people who are regularly bombarded with several streams of electronic information cannot pay attention, recall information, or switch from one job to another as well as those who complete one task at a time."

This became more apparent to me in the strangest way.  This may be because I was studying, somewhat,  again some here and some there (multitasking) on this matter of focus.

Watch this short video that I did because of this recognition

Now you will not want to go to the extreme that I did in this video to improve your focus, I am use to working outside and have done so all of the life I have lived.  I have also exercised outside for a majority of those years so it was easier to stay focused.

Here is a tip about working where the environment somewhat difficult.

"Doing ends Stewing"

Think about this,  it is much easier to endure a hot summer day when you are doing the thing instead of watching - Examples

  •   playing a round of golf or watching from the sideline
  • playing with your children or watch while standing in the sun
  • sitting in a hot parked car while someone runs in the bank

As you can see it is easier to stay focused or focus on the task at hand if you are doing the task instead of stewing about what is going on.

I hope your understood about the focus concept in the video, but in case your did not ... put your focus on the task and doing it correctly not on the heat or the environment because that is what will increase.

Here is an exercise to increase your focus that does not require you to go in the heat.

Get in a quiet place and place a candle in  holder and light it.

Sit down in a chair and watch the flame.  Simply look at the flame and let no thoughts come into your mind but the flame.

Do this until you and the flame become one.

What does that mean?

At first you will only be able to focus on the flame for a mill-a-second. Then for a second, then maybe five seconds before a thought of some sort enters your mind.  When it does put the thought out and come back to the flame.

When you can focus on the flame without any thought entering your mind for two minutes you can accomplish anything you want to.  You will have trained your mind to stay ( focus ) on one thing and you can do it with anything.

Entrepreneur at ---- www.entrepreneur.com/article/225321 suggest using this pattern of work to get the most out of you day

  1. Do creative work first
  2. Allocate your time deliberately
  3. Train your mind like a muscle

When it comes to marketing ... Focus on one thing

Focus on one traffic source like Facebook,  Pinterest, Twitter, or Amazon

Next, Focus on one way to get that traffic.

I would suggest Facebook with its 2 billion users and Attraction Marketing Formula to reach those 2 billion people.

What about Attitude?

For this blog post - and the teaching of Focus on one thing -- I will say this, keep a good attitude. You will have ups and downs disappointments and cheering moments. Keep a good attitude.

To your success
