Details, How Important are They to Your Success?

How Important are details to success?

Today I would like to talk about a little tiny thing called details.  Detail are important.  Some are more important than others so we have to decide what is the priority of the details involved when we are looking at the details that should be in place.

A day job example of details

DetailsI wanted to give you an example of how details can be important from my day job.  I work with a hardware/ lumber yard store where we deliver large ten-wheeled truckloads of material to build houses.  If you do not pack the truck right then you could end up with some very serious problems.

One of the items that we deliver is blocks.   Block weigh about 28-32 lbs and they have sharp edges.  When we load the block on the truck we have this little piece of metal that is bent to form a 90-degree angle and it is called a brick/block lintel.  I these are placed on either side of the pallet of block and runs the length of the pallet.  This is on there so that no block fall off and end up in a windshield.

This is a very small detail but a very important one. This little detail also prevents the sharp edges of the block from cutting the strap which can create another accident.  So one small detail done right can save money and prevent an accident.

Details - straight lumber

I watched a young man driving the forklift bounce a board onto the lumber in the shelf and it landed crooked.  He did not straighten it.  If left alone that board will twist and the company could lose from $4 to $30 depending on the board.  Because no one will buy a twisted board.

So what does this have to do with success?

I am now working on a new platform called Pinterest.  It is not a new platform but it is new to me.   I was trying to set up a business account and wanted to convert my personal account to the business and have one account.

I could not find the right buttons to push to make the change so I went ahead and did it all wrong. what I thought was going to be two accounts, which I did not want, appeared now to be part of one merging with the other.  So, I got support by email and explained what I thought was happening.

After a day and a half of back and forth email at 6:30 in the morning the support person finally got my hardheaded self to see where I was wrong.  A small detail of course, I was logged into one account and visiting the URL of the other account and when I clicked profile it took me back to the first one.

Once I got it — problem solved.  A small detail — “login” vs “visit”Details .  So if you are having challenges with something techy check the details.  In your Ads, changing one detail can optimize the Ad.

One more piece of detail advice…

If you are in a coaching program … listen to the coach. Listen to the details.  Many times they are telling us the answers we are looking for but we are missing the details.  You are paying money for their words, Listen to the details.

Details are important, but do not let them stop you from working.  Prioritize, apply come back and fix the rest later when you can see it.
